Family Sync shares the records of one specific pet with your partner, your family or their carer — from your own iCloud, with no PawBook servers. You choose which pet you share and with what permission: read-only or can edit.
Family Sync is PawBook's collaboration feature, built on Apple's iCloud Sharing (CloudKit). Share the records of one specific pet from your private iCloud with the people you invite: partner, family or carers. There's no PawBook server, and we never see your data. You choose which pet you share and with what permission —read-only or can edit— and, with the same Apple ID, your pets also sync automatically across your devices.
Collaborate without doubling the work, with control always on your side.
With the same Apple ID, your pets and their records appear on your iPhone and your other devices. Uploading never erases your local changes: it uploads first, then pulls.
Every share is per pet, never the whole app. You send a private invitation via Messages, Mail or another app, and only the people you invite get in.
You decide "Read-only" or "Can edit" before sending the invitation, so read-only access can't turn editable by mistake.
Anyone given read-only access can view all the information but not change it: read-only access is protected by PawBook throughout the app —editing controls are hidden and no edit can be saved or synced.
With "Can edit", family members add vet visits, log wellbeing, update routines, mark medication or add vaccinations, and the changes merge without overwriting each other's work.
As the owner, you add or remove people and adjust their permission from Apple's own app, at any time.
If a pet is shared with you, you can create your own independent copy, with its own identifier, without affecting the original pet or its owner.
Removing a shared pet only unlinks it from your device: it isn't deleted from iCloud or for anyone else. You have 6 seconds to undo and an option to recover removed pets.
No new accounts or complicated setup: just your iCloud and the people you choose.
Sign in to iCloud and tap "Sync my pets to iCloud". Your pets upload to your private iCloud and go from "on this device only" to "synced". Nothing is deleted.
On the pet you choose, tap "Share with family", pick "Read-only" or "Can edit" and send the invitation with the app you prefer.
When they tap the link, PawBook receives the shared pet and a "Receiving shared pet" notice appears while it imports, without blocking the app.
Each edit is saved with the timestamp of whoever made it, so the same pet edited in two places merges instead of overwriting. It catches up automatically, usually within seconds, prompted by iCloud notifications and periodic checks; and you can always force an update with the refresh button.
Creating a share requires PawBook Pro or Family. Syncing your own pets across your devices with the same Apple ID is free, as is viewing or editing a shared pet you already take part in. Your plan is determined from your real purchases on each launch.
Family Sync shares the pet's care history, not your entire life in the app. Here's exactly what travels and what never leaves your iPhone.
Before sending the invitation you choose the permission, and that permission rules. In read-only, Apple's app doesn't even offer write access; and inside PawBook, read-only access is protected by the app itself on every screen: editing controls are hidden and no edit can be saved or synced. With "Can edit", each family member adds and updates records, and everything merges field by field with the timestamp of whoever made it, without overwriting each other's work.
Everything lives in your private iCloud via CloudKit. PawBook has no servers of its own and no "pet cloud": we never see your information. You share only the pet you choose —a private invitation, no public links— and you keep control even when removing: removing a shared pet only unlinks it from your device, with 6 seconds to undo and an option to recover it; it isn't deleted from iCloud or for anyone else. And if you want a copy of your own, "Duplicate as my pet" creates an independent one with its own identifier.
Everything lives in your private iCloud via CloudKit. PawBook has no servers of its own and never sees your data. You only share the pet you choose, only with the people you invite, and your notes, reminders and album stay on your device.
